Romanza explores the music of the Iberian Peninsula and L’Occitane during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance period approaching the repertoires cultivated in these regions by using the power of poetry as a starting point. The ensemble brings forward musical journeys that go from the art of the troubadours to the Ars Nova, and from the wonderful Renaissance villancicos to the refined Burgundian chanson.

Searching for a historical sonority, without losing sight of the anthropological and sociological perspective of the repertoires, Romanza emphasizes the central role of vocality, using original instruments to recreate the transparent, pure, and earthly sounds of these musical periods.

The three members of the ensemble have wide experience in the study and interpretation of Medieval and Renaissance music. From different origins and musical backgrounds, they share the same passion for these repertoires, for poetry, dramaturgy and for the value of oral traditions as active witnesses of the past. The performers translate and integrate their different creative experiences into a common language of introspection and elegance.
